Switching from WooCommerce Pre-Orders to Preorder Workspace
Preorder Workspace is a pre-order plugin for WooCommerce that we build and sell at Webin Studio. It costs $39 a year for one site. The official WooCommerce Pre-Orders extension showed $179 a year on its product page when we checked on October 12, 2026. This page covers what changes when you switch, what you set up again yourself, and the two ways to do it.
Founding customer price for our first 10 customers: 40% off the first year with code FOUNDING40.
First year only. Renewals are $39 a year, and the 30-day money-back guarantee still applies.
Try it in your browser first. Open the Preorder Workspace demo in WordPress Playground. It runs in your browser with three fictional pre-order products (pay at checkout, pay on release, and a pre-order fee) and Offline test mode on, so you can place test orders. Nothing is installed on your site.
What carries over and what you set up again
| In your store | After switching to Preorder Workspace 0.1.11 |
|---|---|
| Pre-order settings on products and variations | You set them again: release date or an unknown date, pre-order fee and payment timing. There is no importer for the official extension's settings yet. |
| Pre-orders customers already placed | Not converted. Let them finish under the official extension before you deactivate it. |
| Customers paying up front | They pay at checkout with your WooCommerce payment gateway once you turn on pre-order checkout for your live site. |
| Customers paying on release | Customers reserve without paying. When the product is ready, you review and send each customer a payment request with a link. Automatic charging of saved payment methods works only through WooCommerce PayPal Payments, and only if your PayPal account is eligible. |
| Customer emails | Pre-order emails live in WooCommerce → Settings → Emails, including an optional "Pre-order available" email that is off by default. |
| Subscriptions and Bookings | Not included in this release. If you sell subscription pre-orders, stay with the official extension. |
| Languages | Plugin screens and customer messages ship in nine languages, including English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese. |
How to switch yourself
- Back up the store and make a staging copy. Set
WP_ENVIRONMENT_TYPEtostagingon the copy so it cannot take payments or send email. - List every pre-order product with its release date, pre-order fee and payment timing.
- Install Preorder Workspace on the staging copy and recreate those settings. WooCommerce → Preorder setup lists the steps.
- Place test orders in Offline test mode, then again with your payment gateway's sandbox.
- Pick a switch date after the official extension's open pre-orders have been released. We haven't tested the two plugins running side by side, so ask us before you try that.
- On the switch date, deactivate the official extension, install Preorder Workspace on the live site, recreate the settings and turn on pre-order checkout.
Or we switch it for you: $149
We do the steps above on your store. The price includes one year of Preorder Workspace updates and support.
- Review of your current pre-order setup and open pre-orders
- Staging setup for up to 25 pre-order products or variations
- Test pre-orders with your gateway in test mode
- The live switch on a date you approve, plus a short handover note
Delivery takes about a week after we get staging access. Message us first with your payment gateway, and we'll confirm how payment on release would work for your store.
Requirements
WordPress 7.0.7 or later, WooCommerce, and PHP 8.1 or later. Test on staging before your live store. Hosting, email delivery and payment processing are separate costs.
